Japanese scientists have recently discovered a link between early grey hair and the impact of harmful chemicals and radiation on our bodies. Under the harmful influence of free radical-forming chemicals and radiation, hair in mice turned prematurely grey. This was due to the fast maturing of the affected stem cells in the hair follicles, which made them unable to produce new melanocytes (pigment cells) and thus generate the pigment necessary to...

Bimatoprost, a glaucoma treatment that has been recently approved for lengthening and thickening eyelashes (Latisse) is currently being studied for its topical use in promoting hair growth in patients affected by hereditary hair loss. Preliminary reports from laboratory tests with human hair sound encouraging. It has been reported that the topical use of bimatoprost can make hairs grow faster and longer and can prolong their growth phase. These...

15% seems best to me By Paul, age 38, who has been using minoxidil 15% for two and a half years: I have tried many types of minoxidil-based topicals and my observation is that the higher the minoxidil content, the more effective the treatment is. However, at some point, it makes little sense increasing the concentration further. 15% looks reasonable to me as the 20% mixture is too unstable and leaves crystals of minoxidil in your hair rather than...

Rogain for women, which contains 2% minoxidil, is the only FDA-approved medication for the treatment of female hair loss today. The main reason why women should exercise caution when using minoxidil is the fact that it can induce undesired facial hair growth. However, it does not seem to be such a big problem as it does not happen too often and the peach fuzz which sometimes grows tends to disappear once the treatment has been discontinued. Another...

Nothing revolutionary but works somehow by fred from Massachusetts, age 38, who has been using Dermenodex Thinning Hair Scalp Treatment for 4 months: I have been testing Dermenodex thinning hair scalp treatment for four months, having read quite a few positive reviews of it on the Internet. I used minoxidil before I started with Dermenodex and have not seen any positive or negative effects after the transition from one to the other. Dermenodex alone...

The main existing approaches to combating hair loss include a) antiandrogen treatment, which addresses the leading cause of hereditary baldness – dihydrotestosterone’s (DHT) negative effects on hair follicles and b) promoting new hair growth with hair growth stimulants. Hereditary hair loss in both men and women is caused by DHT attacking our hair follicles, leading to their miniaturisation and eventual death. Propecia (generic name finasteride)...

This product was not designed to regrow hair so if you are looking for a regrowth treatment, try something different.  Read More →

Given the current medicinal options, it is not possible to reverse the colour of your grey hair naturally. Although there are a number of products that derive their anti-grey hair effects from Ayurveda, traditional Chinese medicine or homeopathy, all of them have one thing in common and that is they are not effective for the great majority of grey hair sufferers and were made to earn money for their originators rather than to reverse grey hair....

Dutasteride (trade name Avodart) is a dual, 5-alpha reductase inhibitor. 5-alpha reductase is an enzyme present in the human body, which converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT has been found to be the main cause of hair loss, known as male pattern baldness. Dutasteride belongs to the same group of drugs as finasteride (the main active ingredient of Propecia) but it is a dual, 5-alpha reductase inhibitor, so that it inhibits both...
