It’s been several months since my procedure, and my wife, my son and I recently travelled from our home in Portland, OR back to see some of my family in the Midwest. Many of them had never met Elijah, so the time had come to make the trip.  Read More →

I've decided hair restoration is very much like having children. Before your first kid, everybody tells you the same thing – sleep as much as you can and enjoy every free moment, as after your first kid you will never remember your life before. Similarly, before my hair restoration I used to fuss about trying to conceal my glaring widow's peak as best I could with daily styling, and never failed to feel a pang of frustration with...

Something must be happening. I’ve had 2 people I know come up to me and comment that my hair looks so much fuller than before. Nice to hear of course. I don’t see it, but then again the process is very gradual. Perhaps, seeing myself each day I’m missing the impact of the growth. Based upon my surgeon’s counsel, I expect to start seeing noticeable growth in the Spring. I’ll take the compliment though. I haven’t heard anything like that...

I found a great article from Dr. John P. Schwinning of the International Hair Surgical Group that debunks some of the common myths about hair loss. Dr. Schwinning explains that 40% of men over the age of 40 will experience some form of hair loss, but none due to the conditions listed below. These myths simply “defy logic and basic science.” Here’s an excerpt from the Doctor’s article: Myth 1: Baldness comes from the mother’s...

I decided it was time to get another haircut. Previously I had been keeping the sides and back of my hair very short- a 1 or 2 clipper guard- and, sadly, I can no longer do this so it seems to get a bit too long faster than I want. I went to my regular place only to find the gal that cut my hair last time was not working so, I waited for the next available barber. This was entertaining. I explained to him, much like the gal before, that I had a...

My Mother-in-law recently asked me if I’m happy with the results. She said my hair looked great. I explained to her that the results won’t be visible until the Spring. Perhaps, some of the new graphs are still intact and appear to make my scalp look fuller. It doesn’t look very full to me right now, nor should it until April or May. I’m looking…  Read More →

September 30, 2009 I started noticing in the last few days that very fine hair is starting to grow, specifically in my “receding” area. I am curious to see how fast it starts to fill in. I’ve had no pain or any strange sensations for a while now, other than slight numbness in the crown area. It’s weird, not something I think about unless I touch that area of my scalp and of course realize the slight loss of sensation. Hopefully soon it...

November 24, 2009 For those in my immediate family who I’ve shared the details of my procedure with, I’m amazed how many have said, “Oh your hair is looking so much fuller.” I’m incredulous because my surgeon said there wouldn’t be any visible growth until 8 months or so. So either this is wishful thinking on their part, support & encouragement, or perhaps they do see some of the remaining graphs from the procedure which eventually...

Today I decided to stop and get my first post-surgery hair cut. I go to the same place every time, but the same person doesn’t necessarily cut my hair. This time I had a new stylist that I hadn’t seen before. I warned her that I had a scar and wanted to be sure that the scar was not visible after the cut. I had asked if she had any previous clients that had this type of procedure before.  She said yes but, I am pretty sure she was...

The amazing thing about time, I think, is how it passes. Those things which were such a big deal at a particular point in time in your life, consuming much of your thoughts on any given day during that time, can move on so quickly into perhaps just a thought or two a day, triggered by the oddest of events. As I have now reached day forty-three following my hair restoration procedure…  Read More →
