Dr R Do you have any opinion on Azelaic acid as a dht inhibitor when used topically by itself or in minoxidil tandem? Thanks I do not think there is real evidence that azelaic acid inhibits DHT or works for genetic balding. I am aware that there was a study which was published in 1988 (22 years ago) titled, “ Inhibition of 5α-reductase activity in … [ visit site to read more ]

Xandrox Consumer Reviews (15% Minoxidil with 5% Azelaic Acid)
Feels better than Rogaine by Garry from NY, age 30, who has been using minoxidil 15% with azelaic acid 5% (Xandrox) for two years: I am using a mixture of 15% minoxidil and 5% azelaic acid with good success. I have tried numerous other minoxidil products in the past but this seems to work best for me. The only drawback is that it leaves a residue...
Xandrox Consumer Reviews
15% seems best to me By Paul, age 38, who has been using minoxidil 15% for two and a half years: I have tried many types of minoxidil-based topicals and my observation is that the higher the minoxidil content, the more effective the treatment is. However, at some point, it makes little sense increasing the concentration further. 15% looks reasonable...
Xandrox Review
Xandrox is one of the more popular generic topical applications for treating hair loss. It combines the benefits of the FDA-approved hair growth stimulant, minoxidil, with the assumed dihydrotestosterone (DHT) inhibitor, azelaic acid, in a single formula. There are dozens of other generic minoxidil applications that mimic this formula available on...
Consumer Reviews of Min New York Agent
Expensive minoxidil brand By Terry from the US, age 44, who has been using Min New York Agent for five months: At $36 a month, this product is an overpriced version of generic minoxidil. I used it for five months but am unable to judge if it was any better than the generic mixture containing minoxidil and azelaic acid I am using today. I understand...
New Study – Body Dysmorphia Due to Visual Processing Abnormality
From the study abstract published in the Archives of General Psychiatry: Results : Subjects with BDD showed relative hyperactivity in the left orbitofrontal cortex and bilateral head of the caudate for the unaltered own-face vs familiar-face condition. They showed relative hypoactivity in the left occipital cortex for the low spatial frequency faces....
Could Diet Lower DHT and Stop Hair Loss?
Hi, the mechanism of medications such as Finasteride in stopping hair loss is well known; that of inhibition of the 5-alpha reductase enzyme; which in turn means that far less free testoserone is converted into DHT. I was therefore wondering, if a complete change in diet to foods that lower DHT would theoretically have a similar effect? The end result...
Spectral DNC Review
Spectral DNC is a topical application combining two of the best proven molecules for topical treatment of baldness currently available on the market: minoxidil (5%) and aminexil. Making Sense of Hair Loss Drug Stats
Dr. Rassman, you have said before that minoxidil works for about half of men. The box says that minoxidil has only been proven to work for men experiencing hair loss at the apex/top of head and not for men that are balding from the front. Are these clinical studies made up of men that are already “good candidates”, meaning they have the right...
In the News – If You Sit, You Die
Snippet from the non-hair-loss-related article : A new study from American Cancer Society researchers finds it’s not just how much physical activity you get, but how much time you spend sitting that can affect your risk of death. Researchers say time spent sitting was independently associated with total mortality, regardless of physical activity...
Topical Finasteride Gel as Effective as Oral Drug?
A recently published clinical study from Iran shows that topical finasteride in the form of a topical gel is as effective in treating male pattern baldness as oral use of this drug. This double blind, randomized clinical trial was conducted over a period of 6 months on 45 male subjects who had been balding for 1.5 – 2 years. Serial measurements...
