Hi Dr Rassman, I am a big fan of your site, and you have answered couple of my questions via your blog. I am 24 and been using finasteride 1mg generic per day for the past 14 months. I have got a receding hairline and vertex and it is on norwood 3 vertex. After started fin, there is an increase in the hair density at the hairline but vertex is continuing receding. I am obese and weighing 124 Kg (273 lbs) and my height is 5 feet 10 inches (177.80 cns). So based on BMI, I am … [ visit site to read more ]

I Have Characteristics of DUPA and MPB
I have been losing hair since I was about 17 (I am now 23), and I’m confused as my hair loss seems to have characteristics of both DUPA and typical MPB. For example, I have a receding hairline and a small bald spot at the vertex – typical of MPB. However, I also have general thinning on the crown, forelock and down the sides and back...
I Upped My Finasteride Dosage and My Hair Loss Stopped Drastically
Dear Dr. Rassman, I understand the debate regarding the appropriate dosage of finasteride to be taken seems to have no end. I am currently taking 2.5mg (half proscar since 3 years ago where Propecia stopped working as well), so far so good. I would not say propecia stopped responding, but more of my genetics are catching up. Anyway, by upping to...
Any Link Between Body Hair and MPB?
I’m sure that this question has been asked many times but are body hair and baldness related? My dad suffers from MPB and he inherited it from his maternal grandfather. He first noticed a receding hairline at 16. My dad also has a lot of body hair and matured quite early. I’ve been told that I carry a lot of my mother’s genes but...
Body Hair, Semen, and Hair Loss Drugs
Dear Dr. Rassman, I am a 22 year old male, and I have been on Propecia and Rogaine for about 2.5 months now. I was developing slight hair loss at the crown, and a receding hairline. It seems as though hair loss in all these places is being reversed as a result of the medication. I can still see room for improvement, but  Read More →
Transplanting a Norwood 6 to a Norwood 3 or 4?
Transplanting a Norwood 6 to a Norwood 3 or 4?
Hi Doc, Great Blog If a patient was norwood six on the scale with normal density how many grafts do you think it would take to create a hairstyle similar to that of Tom Ford With strong density. I believe a conservative hairline with more overall density produces a better appearance that that of a lower hairline. Here is a sample of the hairstyle:...
Why Do Doctors Transplant the Swirl?
As the vertex eats up so many grafts, why do Dr.s try to transplant without the swirl and simply part the hair. The direction of the top could be forward and the lower half downward. I believe many men would give up the swirl for more coverage, is this possible? You are correct. The vertex (crown) ‘eats up’ many grafts. In other words,...
Is My Hairline Receding Because of High Iron in the Water?
Hello Doctor, This is a hairline receding question. I have witnessed hair thinning and the hairline receding on the far right side of the temple. I’m certain that the same is making it’s way to the otherside and I’m not quite sure what to make of it. I am 25 years old and this thinning has gained pace ever since I moved to the eastern...
What Percentage of Men in Their Mid-20s Are Transplant Candidates?
Dr. Rassman, I am 25 yrs old and I have a receding hairline. I understand that you can’t tell me whether I’m a candidate without seeing me, but can you tell me what percentage of men my age are candidates for a hair transplant? Also, what characteristics make these men candidates? Assuming that you do not have a maturing hairline , then...
Asymmetrical Hairline After Hair Transplant (with Photos)
Hi Doctor Rassman. I had a hair transplant a few years back by a very respectable doctor, and while I’m generally quite pleased with the results, my hairline is a bit asymmetrical. How normal is it for a natural hairline to be higher on one side? Thanks! In nature, the hairlines of non-balding males are usually symmetrical, but occasionally...
Why Patients Often Need More than One Hair Transplant
The reality of hair transplantation is that a patient will rarely meet their hair restoration goals with a single procedure. The younger patient who has a small session to restore a receding hairline may find that the progressive nature of hair loss will require him to return in the future to add density while an  Read More →
