  On July 4th weekend while visiting family in Texas, our 2 year old Boston Terrier, Daisy, was bitten by an unknown poisonous snake. She was treated immediately by an out-of-town vet. At this time, we were unsure of what exactly had bitten/stung Daisy. The tennis ball sized lump on her leg was ruled unnecessary to be drained by this vet, Daisy was given an IV to rehydrate her, an antibiotic shot, and we were told she should be good to go within 4-5 days. We were told not to worry as the wound would likely become very morose in appearance, but that this was part of the healing process. Four days later and after speaking with the out-of-town vet on the third day (who reassured me all was fine), Daisy's abdomen skin had opened such that her abdomen muscles were visible for approximately half an inch. We had had enough and immediately took her to our regular vet here in Oklahoma City. She was immediately rushed into surgery, as the poisonous venom having not been drained at the first visit had unknowingly spread throughout her entire lower adbomen and left leg. The skin and part of the muscle was partially dead and partially infected. It required that every bit of the affected area be removed in the surgery. After surgery, Daisy's wound was left open as there was no other choice. Cleaning and medicating it three times per day, along with a strong line of pain medicine, anti-inflammatories, and antibiotics all followed for three weeks.   My visit to a commercial Apiary...
  Wed July 8, 2010 I went to a commercial Apiary to learn how to graft. I spent the day learning how this commercial Apiary reared queens. I watched the technique they used to graft, and I was able to practice grafting. What surprised me the most, was how small the larvae had to be. I would pick a larvae with my grating tool and place it into an artificial queen cup. Then I would ask my instructor how I did and she would say, "that larvae is too big", or yes that larvae is the right size, but you killed it". After much practice and her pointing out the correct size, I was able to discern the correct age larvae....but I still have to practice at home in my apiary. Another thing I learned was that priming the artificial queen cups with Royal jelly helped remove the larvae much easier off of the grafting tool. Anyhow, this video is a series of videos I took.

A dwarf citrus tree is the way to go and I want to show you one right here. This is a Dwarf Citrus. Growing to about 8 to 10 feet in height, it's going to be accessible and it's going to be ready to produce for you in about a year, maybe even less. Most of these citrus can go inside containers, be sure to put gravel in the bottom, lots of compost, organic fertilizer, what have you. Now one of the choices you'll have in a nursery are a Dwarf Citrus versus a Standard Citrus. So the one maybe 6 to 8, maybe 10 feet versus one like this: growing in excess of 20 feet, maybe even 25 [feet]. Too big for most back yard gardens, go with the Dwarf Citrus. Most citrus: add fertilizer, add compost on an annual basis, it'll put out for you really well. Every tree in the world is going to be good for you if it's got a graft. This graft right here has a root stock that stays resistant to bugs, desease, any kind of bad things in the soil. And what you have here is something for size, something for taste. So keep in mind a grafted fruit tree is a good way to go and in most cases, I'd go with the dwarf. So just a quick note on Citrus.
