If I’m a NW3, When Will My Advancing to NW6 Be Evident?

March 19th, 2010 admin

I’m currently a 3 on the Norwood scale and I see some miniaturization in my crown. Someday I’ll probably reach a 6 on the Norwood scale like my father did, but lets say for some reason I were to progress as far as a 7, when would that miniaturization be present? Would a doctor be able to find it now even though I’m only a 3? I am not a psychic and I cannot predict the future. If I … [ visit site to read more

Predicting Hair Loss through Miniaturization Mapping
Mapping the scalp for miniaturization can help predict a patient’s future balding pattern thereby assisting the physician in creating a long term plan for hair restoration. It also provides a baseline for measuring the effectiveness of hair loss treatments like Rogaine (minoxidil) and Propecia (finasteride). So what is miniaturization mapping? How...
Here’s My Photos — Should I Be on Hair Meds?
Hello Doctor. I am a 22 y.o. male and my father and all his brothers are bald. My mother’s brothers all have their hair except for one. I have a few pictures here, I was wondering if you can take a look at them and tell me what I am on the Norwood scale, I mean exactly with decimals if you have to. Also, do you feel I should be taking any medications...
I Had a Transplant and Take Propecia — Is It Too Late for Miniaturization Mapping?
Hi Dr. Rassman. You’ve written that after miniaturization mapping you can do a good job predicting what balding pattern a person will likely develop. If I’ve already had a hair transplant a few years ago and have been on Propecia, and mapping wasn’t done beforehand, is there no way for me to predict where I’m headed? Thanks....

In the News – Microneedles to Replace Syringes?
Snippet from the article : In a move that could spell disaster for the lollipop industry, scientists have reported progress in designing pain-free vaccines that people might be able to use at home. Someday that might mean fewer jabs at the doctor’s office — and fewer crying kids … [ visit site to read more ]  Read More →
Remaining Vellus Hairs from My Juvenile Hairline
As a rule, does miniaturization need to be present behind the frontal hair line to indicate genetic hair loss? What would you say to someone who presented you with an intact, albeit mature, hair line – with no thinning present behind but had noticeable vellus hairs along frontal edge particularly in the corners where the hair line had raised...
Settling In to a Hair Loss Pattern?
Hi, Dr. Rassman. Thanks for answering all of our questions. My question is, How likely is it for someone to “settle in” to a level of hair loss (Norwood 3A, for example) and not see any more rapid loss for a period of time (years, for example)? Do some people get to a certain level of hair loss beyond a mature hairline and stay that way...
Doctors That Don’t Do Miniaturization Mapping
When attempting to find a good HT Doctor, should one that doesn’t do a Miniaturization test be a strong factor in determining whether to use them? There are many doctors that do not map the scalp for miniaturization . It is a relatively easy procedure, and in my hands it is basic to using medications like Propecia, in determining the health...
Is Hair Cloning a Viable Option in My Lifetime?
Hi Doctor, I was speaking with my grandfather the other day about our family history concerning hairloss. He’s been at about a 6 on the Norwood Scale for as long as I can remember. I am 19 years old and I’m starting to see the first signs of recession at the temples. He mentioned something he heard about hair cloning. What is your opinion...
Doctors Suggesting an Aggressive Approach to the Corners of the Hairline
Hi Dr. Rassman, my husband has thinning hair on two of his front corners of his head Norwood 2-3. And he went to a doctor for a consultation about the problem, they suggest dense packing the two corners. However my husband doesn’t want to have the corners densely packed in case the rest of his hair in the center thins out in the future, which...
Different Genetics for Hairline and Crown Balding?
Dear Doctor Rassman, I read a recent post on your blog and it got me thinking. -Propecia usually does work on the crown. -Propecia usually doesn’t work on the hairline. -Propecia blocks DHT. Is there a posiibility that the genetics of frontal balding and crown balding are different? -The baldness on the crown is more dependant on adrogens then...
