Physiological Difference Between Crown and Hairline Balding?

February 5th, 2010 admin

Dear Dr. Rassman, My question is regarding the non-approved use of minoxidil for frontal balding. In your response here your thoughts were that it might work to some degree. My question is whether there is a physiological difference between balding at the hairline and on the crown? If not, is there some other reason why minoxidil might be less effective at the hairline, or … [ visit site to read more ]

Does Transplanted Crown Hair Grow Slower Than Other Scalp Areas?
Hello Dr. Rassman. I got a ht done just under 6 months ago and i’ve noticed that the crown has shown little to no growth while the top front half of my head has shown a significant amount of growth. Could it possibly be the crown is the last place that sees the new hair growth?? the difference between the front and crown is very drastic and...
Asymmetrical Hairline After Hair Transplant (with Photos)
Hi Doctor Rassman. I had a hair transplant a few years back by a very respectable doctor, and while I’m generally quite pleased with the results, my hairline is a bit asymmetrical. How normal is it for a natural hairline to be higher on one side? Thanks! In nature, the hairlines of non-balding males are usually symmetrical, but occasionally...
Can I Use Rogaine to Prevent a Mature Hairline?
Hello Dr: William Rassman, First of all I should like to say I love your website and I highly appreciate your contribution to making a difference in the World. My question: I am 23 years old and I have been going bald at the frontal area just like my Older brothers who are in their late twenties. Its a starting to form a V shape. I was wondering...
I’m 18 Years Old and I Wonder If My Hairline is Maturing
Dear DR, I’m a 18 year old Caucasian male. A few months ago I noticed that my hairline looks like its receding although I’m not totally sure if its just a maturing hairline or balding hairline. I have always had quite a high hairline and my right side is slightly higher than the left side. My father has class 6 balding at 45 but didn’t...
Propecia Side Effects – Psychological or Physiological?
Hello good doctor I messaged you before and I understand you are busy. I am 22 years old and I have begun to notice a little bit of hair loss. The hair seems to be thinning out. I have started taking 0.5mg of Propecia today, I experienced some side effects with the 1 mg dont know if they were psychological or physiological in nature. My doctor recommended...
I Stopped Rogaine After the Makers Told Me It Would Only Work in the Crown
I’ve been using Minoxidil for a number of years but wasnt sure if it was working. I definitely lost hair in the crown area even though I was using the product so I got hair transplant. I called the makers of Rogaine to see if using the product would be an issue with the transplants and was told it only works for the crown area anyway. With...
I’m Not Seeing a Drastic Difference a Year After Hair Transplant
Dear Dr., I had a hair transplant (840 3-4 follicular grafts) in February of 2009. The areas treated were the large crown and also throughout the temporal areas. I still do not see a drastic difference. I am not sure why. I am continuously also using Rogaine foam and Propecia. When under any bright lights, I see such thinning as to where the transplant...
Do I Use the Rogaine Dosage All Over My Scalp or Concentrate on the Crown?
Do I Use the Rogaine Dosage All Over My Scalp or Concentrate on the Crown?
I have a question regarding rogaine. I have thinning in the crown and front of the head too. I have read that rogaine can be beneficial for retarding additional hair loss anywhere there is hair. Thus, I split the 1 ml dose throughout my scalp rather than just concentrating it on the crown. Would this stop the effectiveness of rogaine? I suppose...
My Crown is Thinning at Only 14 Years Old!

It appears that this runs in my family because my uncle is in his twenties and he has the same problem. I am an African American male. I have also heard that African hair is fragile. i brush my hair with a boar brush that is quite hard. So...
My Hair Was Transplanted with Micrografts Lower than My Juvenile Hairline!
Hello Dr. Rassman, I had a couple of HT procedures in the late 90’s that placed several hundred “micrografts” and “minigrafts” into my hairline. While the result is not as bad as some of the super-pluggy transplants I’ve seen, I now know that an FUE procedure could produce much better results. The issue is that...
