Cyproterone Acetate and DHT
Dr. Rassman, I know this may sound like an odd question, but, would an antiandrogen such as Cyproterone Acetate reduce the levels of DHT in the male body? Would it preserve hair in a person with very little balding. I realize there are major side effects with this drug, but am still curious. Thanks, and keep up the wonderful work, your blog is quite informative!

Hi Dr Rassman, Your blog is a gift so thank you for your efforts. After reading your blog and doing a bit of research I have decided to get some guts and visit my local doctor to start Propecia. I have been on it for two weeks so far with no major side effects – so any one reading scared off by all the internet hype out there – you will just...
How do you keep the hair that you have without any side effect medications? Most men have no side effects from Propecia, as the sexual side effects only occur in 1% of patients. Members of my own family take it and have no side effects, nor have they ever had them. Minoxidil has side effects of its own, including changes in blood pressure and skin...
Dear Dr. Rassman, Thank you for this informative website. I visit everyday, and my wife just gave me your book for the holidays. Unfortunately, I am one of the few who have experienced side effects with Propecia. I was orginally on 1mg per day, and then I tried 1mg every other day, and .5 every day. But everytime I had to stop. Luckily, all three...
Dr. Rassman, you have said before that minoxidil works for about half of men. The box says that minoxidil has only been proven to work for men experiencing hair loss at the apex/top of head and not for men that are balding from the front. Are these clinical studies made up of men that are already “good candidates”, meaning they have the right...
Hi Dr, I was reading a number of your responses to the queries posted here and was really pleasantly surprised by the straight ahead and honest answers you provide. I have a query related to what precautions should be taken in one’s sex life when taking propecia, apart from avoiding potential pregnancy. Could the drug be potentially damaging...
Hi doc! Thank you for your excellent and informative blog! I’ve been hearing things recently about using the very potent aromatase inhibitor anastrozole to prevent the ‘estrogenic’ side effects of finasteride. Anastrozole drastically reduces estrogen levels in men and, unsurprisingly, raises free testosterone as well. Would you...
Hi Dr, I’m a regular reader of your blog and have honestly found it both reassuring and informative in equal measure, so thanks for the great work. My question is regarding the new test for determining a patients predisposition to MPB. I know it has been made available by a very reputable British Dr, but it seemed to me that if such a test...
Drs I have recently started a course of Propecia. Based on what I’ve read, I understand that the drug can, in rare cases, cause sexual side-effects, namely decreased libido, reduced ejaculate and even erectile dysfunction. I’ve found that it has had the reverse effects on me, that is, it has heightened my libido and increased my ejaculate,...
Hello Dr. Rassman, I know that you don’t put a lot of stock into herbal remedies for hair loss, but an article I found on the Reishi Mushroom does have some interesting information regarding the mushrooms effects on 5-alpha-reductase. Perhaps you’d like to look at this: Study Thanks for you wonderful blog and let me know what you think...
Hello! Congratulations for the great insight that you give with your blog. I’m probably hopping on the Propecia bandwagon and would like to know your clinical experience with it concerning side effects. Do many patients discontinue it after some time? I know the whole debate about Propecia’s safeness, for me it’s probably more of...
