I’m an 18 year old female, currently straighten my fringe every day and I’m really concerned that this will cause permanent damage. I know that straightening can make hair brittle, causing it to fall out until a new one grows, but I read somewhere that heat from straightening irons can travel up the hair shaft and burn the follicle, meaning the hair will never grow back. CellCept (Organ Transplant Antirejection Medication) and Hair Loss
I have been taking CellCept for 6 weeks and I noticed hair loss, I have stopped taking it now but this was 8 weeks ago and I have seen no improvement. Can you advise if it will grow back? I’ve answered this question about CellCept before and have nothing new to report since then. If it grows back it would take over a year, though it often does...
Is it Crazy to Travel Across the Country for a Consultation?
Is it Crazy to Travel Across the Country for a Consultation?
After reading your blog from end to end, I am tempted to travel to LA at some point in the future just to consult with you. This is despite the availability of excellent doctors in New York some of whom I have met. Is it crazy to want to do this? Has anyone done this before? I do not think it is out of the ordinary to travel a distance to seek...
Do You Think the Iron Supplement or Minoxidil Contributed to My Regrowth?
I’m a 24 year old male and have microcytic anemia (most likely) due to iron deficiency. I had been able to halt my MPB hair loss by taking finasteride (1mg) since age 18, however experienced rapid shedding about nine months ago. To stop the hair loss, I added minoxidil 5% to my regimen and started taking ferrous gluconate tablets for my anemia....

Is There a Good Way to Wean off of Minoxidil?
Hi Doc, I have to say, this is really nice what you’re doing in this site. My question is this… I was using minoxidil for a year and I suddenly stopped. I had hair fall immediately and now my hair is very thin. How does someone stop or taper minoxidil treatment? Currently I am on propecia medication. Do you think I’m still going...
In the News – Scalp Cooler for Chemo Treatments
Snippet from the article: The machines work by lowering the temperature of the head and scalp by a few degrees before, during and after chemotherapy. This reduction in scalp temperature restricts the amount of blood reaching the hair follicles protecting them from the effects of chemotherapy drugs in the bloodstream, meaning that hair loss is not...
Treatment Options for Alopecia Areata
Alopecia areata (spot baldness, patch baldness) is an autoimmune disease in which the person’s immune system decides to attack its own hair follicles. It is an unpredictable but reversible condition and there is no treatment at the moment that delivers reliable results. Sometimes hair grows back after a few years with no treatment necessary and...

I still experience hair fall and I’m still trying to figure out what  Read More →

Guaranteed Graft Growth?
How can clinics like Bosley and M.H.R. guarranty that every graft will grow or they will replace it and you and Dr. Berstein make you sign a disclaimer stating that a hair transplane is not guaranteed to grow at all. Thanks for a great blog. There are no guarantees on workmanship. You could imagine that someone with cancer wants the doctor to guarantee...
