Estimating Graft Count for 2 Inches of Hair

January 27th, 2010 admin

Dear Dr. Rassman. I was wondering roughly how many grafts, single to double hairs, would be required to fill an area of 2 inches? I have straight medium weight, dirty blond hair. The average hair density is 1250 hairs per square inch (or 600 follicular units). So a 2 square inch area would contain about 2400 follicular units. For the appearance of fullness, medium weight hair is certainly better than fine hair, and dirty blond hair with a white skin is better than … [ visit site to read more ]

How Many FUE Grafts Actually Grew? (with Photos)
A man came to see me last week with a problem following his hair transplant at another clinic over a year ago. The surgeon told him that 6600 grafts were transplanted using the follicular unit extraction (FUE) technique, which he guaranteed has a yield of over 90%. The patient wanted to know if his surgery actually reflected 6600 grafts, so at the...
Transplanting Very Fine Hair
Dr. do you have pictures to show what a hair transplant may look like for someone who has very fine hair? I may need as many as 1000-1500 grafts at my age of 51. My concern is my hair thickness. I believe my donor hair density is ‘average’ but not thick in caliber. Thank you Many men have very fine hair. Hair thickness will affect the...
My Dermatologist Told Me I’ll Go Bald If I Don’t Treat My Seborrheic Dermatitis
Dr Rassman I am suffering from recurring Seborrheic dermatitis since 2 years, now my age is 26. I never had any hair problem before. I feel fine while on medicines but as soon as I stop taking medicines itching in scalp resumes and skin starts flaking and scaling again. I have spent lots of money and time with discomfort due to itchy scalp. Is there...
My Trichologist Said I’m Not Balding But Likely Will in the Future!
Hi doctor, I was involved in a car accident four years ago where amongst much more serious injuries I lost a section of hair at the back of my head approximately one inch long and half an inch wide. Because of this I had to visit a hair loss specialist local to me who is an expert in trichology, she thinks it is alopecia but  Read More →

Hair Transplant Failures and Survival Rates
An article written by Dr. Michael Beehner in the most recent issue of the Hair Transplant Forum (print newsletter published by the ISHRS ) discussed survival of hairs in a hair transplant. Estimating The Number of Required Grafts For Potential Hair Transplant Procedure
This frequently asked question comes from a member of the Hair Restoration Social Community and Discussion Forums: I’m investigating a hair transplant procedure and I’m wondering if it is possible to figure out how many follicular unit grafts my case requires? Should I post pictures on my hair loss weblog, or rely solely on my hair  Read More →
Using Toppik to Provide More Density After a Hair Transplant
Using Toppik to Provide More Density After a Hair Transplant
If you don’t have enough density to cover a full Norwood 6 with a transplant, what is your opinion of doing light coverage and then using Toppik and/or other concealers (for life) in order to give the appearance of more hair? I’ve posted a couple cases about this. Those with very fine hair will have a harder time obtaining coverage,...
I Started Seeing Scalp Hair Loss Right As My Chest Hair Grew In
Firstly, I would like to express my gratitude for this incredible site. It has really been incredibly helpful. I just have a couple questions I’ve had difficulty finding the answers to. 1) I’ve read that the appearance of chest hair is an indicator that DHT is working on your body. Would that mean that people who have MPB would begin...
Density — FUE Versus FUT
One aspect puzzles me. In FUT a strip is removed and closed so a part of the scalp vanishes and is replaced by a thin scar. The areas adjoining the scar retain their hair density and very often with trichophytic closure hair grows out of the scar, again with no reduction in density. In FUE follicular units are harvested individually. No large scar...
Guaranteed Graft Growth?
How can clinics like Bosley and M.H.R. guarranty that every graft will grow or they will replace it and you and Dr. Berstein make you sign a disclaimer stating that a hair transplane is not guaranteed to grow at all. Thanks for a great blog. There are no guarantees on workmanship. You could imagine that someone with cancer wants the doctor to guarantee...
