I Haven’t Consistently Used Minoxidil — Is It OK to Just Stop Completely?
January 26th, 2010 admin
I’ve been using minoxidil on and off for about 8 months now. I apply it once a day and quite often miss days or a few days. At one point I missed two weeks. I don’t think it has done much for my hair and have recently started propecia. With regards to stopping minoxidil (if you think I should), should I come off it gradually or will stopping it suddenly have no serious effects i.e. instant/prolonged shedding? If it helps, i’m 19 and in the early stages of hair … [ visit site to read more ]

I feel that propecia has caused my hairloss to increase dramatically, I have been shedding rapidly for 3-4 months now and it is not slowing. My hair has become much thinner and is shedding in areas in which no hair loss was noticed before treatment. I am in the early stages of hair loss, with no completely bald areas. Is it possible that an increased...
I have used minoxidil7% (2mL/day)and finasteride for 13 months with good results, including a period of shedding 10 months in. Then, suddenly, I felt burning on my scalp so discontinued minoxidil. I returned to the minoxidil after 2 months but can tolerate only 0.5mL/day). I have been back on for 3 weeks. In that time I have noticed a loss of density....
Hi, I am a 24 year old male and have begun the early stages of MPB. My doctor has prescribed Minoxidil 5% and I know your suppose to apply it twice a day but that doesn’t really fit into my schedule, so I have only been applying it about once every other day. My question is, is there any harm that can be done applying 5% Minoxidil once every...
Hi Doc, I have to say, this is really nice what you’re doing in this site. My question is this… I was using minoxidil for a year and I suddenly stopped. I had hair fall immediately and now my hair is very thin. How does someone stop or taper minoxidil treatment? Currently I am on propecia medication. Do you think I’m still going...
Dr Rassman, My question is: does finasteride play any role in maintaining minoxidil dose-dependent hair? I got started on 5% minoxidil topical in early Feb, 2009. My derm prescribed Finasteride oral 1mg/day too, but I did not pursue that medication due to the usual side-effects related concerns. There was an initial minox-induced shed: not a massive...
Dr. Rassman, Thanks again for maintaining this blog. I have asked a number of questions before and appreciate your prompt responses. I have a few questions about minoxidil and propecia. Here they are: I have been using minoxidil (liquid solution) for almost a year. A couple of months back it really started to irritate my scalp. I am almost convinced...
Hi Doctor – I was using propecia (Finax 1mg) since Nov’2009 till Feb’2010, I was also using minoxidil 5% tropical solution. During Dec and Jan I experienced palpitations and Feb I felt stress around my face and chest which turned out to be high blood pressure 145/90. This did not happen for a month and then again suddenly I have...
Propecia (finasteride) to date is arguably the most effective non-surgical hair loss solution available today followed by topical Rogaine (minoxidil). Propecia works by reducing the amount of DHT (dihydrotestosterone) produced in the body, the hormone responsible for genetic female hair loss and male pattern baldness. Though we live in a world where...
Hello doctors, I’m a black male with very early stage thinning in a 3v pattern. I’ve been on finasteride for about two years, and am basically satisfied with the results. I’ve talked to friends and family who might have similar patterns of thinning, and in discussing the options, several of them are skeptical about the effect transplants...
Hi there I’ve been using Propecia for nearly eleven months and minoxidil for the same amount of time. In the first three months of the treatment I experienced severe hair loss (shedding) and a succession of side effects such as anxiety, depression, stomach cramps, mood swings and slight swelling of my pecs. After this my hair became thicker...
