I’ve been using minoxidil on and off for about 8 months now. I apply it once a day and quite often miss days or a few days. At one point I missed two weeks. I don’t think it has done much for my hair and have recently started propecia. With regards to stopping minoxidil (if you think I should), should I come off it gradually or will stopping it suddenly have no serious effects i.e. instant/prolonged shedding? If it helps, i’m 19 and in the early stages of hair … [ visit site to read more ]

I Feel Propecia Has Dramatically Increased My Hair Loss
I feel that propecia has caused my hairloss to increase dramatically, I have been shedding rapidly for 3-4 months now and it is not slowing. My hair has become much thinner and is shedding in areas in which no hair loss was noticed before treatment. I am in the early stages of hair loss, with no completely bald areas. Is it possible that an increased...
Is There a Good Way to Wean off of Minoxidil?
Hi Doc, I have to say, this is really nice what you’re doing in this site. My question is this… I was using minoxidil for a year and I suddenly stopped. I had hair fall immediately and now my hair is very thin. How does someone stop or taper minoxidil treatment? Currently I am on propecia medication. Do you think I’m still going...
What If I’m Allergic to an Ingredient in Minoxidil?
Dr. Rassman, Thanks again for maintaining this blog. I have asked a number of questions before and appreciate your prompt responses. I have a few questions about minoxidil and propecia. Here they are: I have been using minoxidil (liquid solution) for almost a year. A couple of months back it really started to irritate my scalp. I am almost convinced...
Do You Think the Iron Supplement or Minoxidil Contributed to My Regrowth?
I’m a 24 year old male and have microcytic anemia (most likely) due to iron deficiency. I had been able to halt my MPB hair loss by taking finasteride (1mg) since age 18, however experienced rapid shedding about nine months ago. To stop the hair loss, I added minoxidil 5% to my regimen and started taking ferrous gluconate tablets for my anemia....
Reports of Rogaine Shedding Have Me Worried!
I’m 26 and have been thinning for the past year on top/crown and my hairline is receding a little. I have finally started rogaine and just found out about “shedding”. This makes me very nervous, and I have some questions: What percentage of men who use rogaine experience shedding? What are the side effects if I discontinue rogaine during the...
How Soon Before Propecia Starts Working to Stop Hair Loss?
Propecia (finasteride) to date is arguably the most effective non-surgical hair loss solution available today followed by topical Rogaine (minoxidil). Propecia works by reducing the amount of DHT (dihydrotestosterone) produced in the body, the hormone responsible for genetic female hair loss and male pattern baldness. Though we live in a world where...
Blurred Vision from Minoxidil?
I have taken propecia and minoxidil for approximately 2 weeks (and have since stopped). I noticed blurred vision and believe it to be attributed to either the propecia or minoxidil, or both. My questions is if my blurred vision is associated with either product. will the blurring go away now that I have stopped. Please respond. I haven’t read...
Should there be an age limit for men seeking hair transplant surgery?
Dr. Bessam Farjo, one of the United Kingdom’s leading hair transplant surgeons, wants to set an age limit for men seeking hair transplant surgery . His plea stems from a rise in the number of teenage boys who want to address their waning hairlines early. Perhaps a little too early. “Hair loss can be quite unpredictable in its early stages,...

Minoxidil and OCD Medication
Hi Dr.Rass . I have been under OCD treatment for the past 11 years. I am undergoing SSRIs (Es-Citalopram oxalate) Would you recommend Finasteride in my case. Shall I try topical minoxidil will it in any way interacts with my OCD medication. I can’t recommend finasteride to you, since I do not know if you’re even a candidate and it is...
