Actor Jon Hamm’s Hairline
Hello Doctor, I can’t remember if I asked this already but it didn’t seem to be answered. I was curious if you would characterize the actor Jon Hamm as a textbook NW2? He clearly has a mature hairline at least, but I can’t see any frontal balding. I recently got a hair transplant and I believe my hairline will mimic his, which is quite promising considering I am about five years his junior. My wife seems to think he’s very handsome, and he clearly does not have a juvenile … [ visit site to read more ]

Hello doctor, I have been wondering about this and have found no answer. When the juvenile hairline matures, what happens to the characteristic of the hair on the juvenile hairline as this happens, does it miniaturise? Does it all go at once or one hair at a time? You suggested these hairs go through aptosis but during this process would these hairs...
Dear Dr. Rassman, My question is regarding the non-approved use of minoxidil for frontal balding. In your response here your thoughts were that it might work to some degree. My question is whether there is a physiological difference between balding at the hairline and on the crown? If not, is there some other reason why minoxidil might be less effective...
Hi Doctor, I have written to you before about my hairline; I was about to make my TV debut a year ago and was a little freaked out about my hair. My hairline started maturing when I was about 15 and at age 17 all recession stopped. I had some hairs along the edge and corners of the hairline that I suspected I would lose one day. About 2yrs ago I...
started propecia 1 month ago have a receding hairline. have lots of miniature hairs still there. will propecia help these hairs grow thicker? Each case is different, and I can’t give you a 100% guarantee that Propecia will save those hairs in your hairline. I don’t even know where your loss pattern is or how old you are. I can tell you...
Hello Dr. Rassman! I’ve found your blog to be extremely helpful and I’d like to ask you a question: I’m 19 years old, and I’ve noticed thinning at the corners of the hairline, with thinner, shorter hairs, extending (as far as I can tell with close inspection – no microscope available yet unfortunately) about 1.3″...
I would like to share my experience with latisse. I am 27. I am prone to balding as we have the genes in our family (father, uncle, and grandfather are bald!). However, I have not experienced any balding since I use propecia regularly (only a half a pill every day or every other day) and also use latisse on my scalp every other 2 days. My hair is...
I inherited a strange hairline characteristic from my Maternal father, one side is and always has been far higher than the other, however it skipped his son. Does this mean I will have the same pattern of hair loss as my grandfather? I ask because everyone in the family except for his son (my uncle) has a pretty good head of hair. Should one even...
I’m a celebrity gossip fan (for better or worse). I know you recently wrote about Jon Cryer from Two and a Half Men, but I just saw this new photo of his balding pattern. It is way worse than I originally thought!! What Norwood Class would you estimate he’s at? I’m just curious. TMZ: Jon Cryer — Out in the … [ visit...
Say one starts taking propecia once minor thinning is first noticed in a young male the age of 19-20. Say propecia reveres the minor thinning and maintain the hair until your 50s. Is it possible to get off of propecia at 50 since Androgen levels are at their highest in our 20s-30s? I’m a 20 year old male with my juvenile hairline but with very...
Snippet from the interview: I love my hair – my barber, Paul, has given me a 50s style with a bit of a quiff. I take Propecia pills for my hair, because I started losing it four years ago. It’s a horrible thing – it’s emasculating and you just feel you aren’t sexy any more. The pills worked and my hair grew back, but I am...

The Seven Least Convincing Movie High Schoolers
[Movies]
There's a reason filmmakers rarely cast actual teenagers. Real adolescence is full of insecurity, change, stickiness, and other things no one actually wants to see on a big screen. However, there's a fine line between comfortably post-pubescent and an obviously receding hairline. Here's seven actors who were simply too old to play high school.

Bendable Concrete Heals Itself -- Just Add Water
[General Sciences]
Traditional concrete is brittle and is easily fractured during an earthquake or by overuse. By contrast, the new concrete composite can bend into a U-shape without breaking. When strained, the material forms hairline cracks, which auto-seal after a few days of light rain. The flexible material is just as strong after it heals...
