Confused About the Norwood Chart

January 18th, 2010 admin

I have a question about the norwood scale pictures. When the pictures show very little hair, is it supposed to represent literally that amount of hair, or any noticeable amount of thinning? I suppose an example would be 3 vs 4v. Does 3 mean there is no thinning at all and 4v mean they still have a decent head of hair, but the hair on

Hypothetical Graft Requirements for Norwood 6 to 1
I am just curious to know how many grafts would it take for a Norwood 6 to return back to a Norwood 1? I know this is not possible, but suppose hair multiplication became possible in the next decade, can you give us an estimate of how many grafts it would take for a Norwood 6 to return back to Norwood 1 ? In general, you need about 15% of your...

Transplanting a Norwood 6 to a Norwood 3 or 4?
Hi Doc, Great Blog If a patient was norwood six on the scale with normal density how many grafts do you think it would take to create a hairstyle similar to that of Tom Ford With strong density. I believe a conservative hairline with more overall density produces a better appearance that that of a lower hairline. Here is a sample of the hairstyle:...
Here’s My Photos — Should I Be on Hair Meds?
Hello Doctor. I am a 22 y.o. male and my father and all his brothers are bald. My mother’s brothers all have their hair except for one. I have a few pictures here, I was wondering if you can take a look at them and tell me what I am on the Norwood scale, I mean exactly with decimals if you have to. Also, do you feel I should be taking any medications...
Juvenile Norwood 3 Hairline?
Dear Docs, Please look at the pictures in this thread at BaldingForum . I’d like to get a hair transplant shortly. How often do you come across a juvenile Norwood 3 hairline? How soon can you schedule a procedure and i’m interested to consult on proposed hairlines. I was born with a weak hairline and in my 30’s, i’d like something...
Do I Use the Rogaine Dosage All Over My Scalp or Concentrate on the Crown?
Do I Use the Rogaine Dosage All Over My Scalp or Concentrate on the Crown?
I have a question regarding rogaine. I have thinning in the crown and front of the head too. I have read that rogaine can be beneficial for retarding additional hair loss anywhere there is hair. Thus, I split the 1 ml dose throughout my scalp rather than just concentrating it on the crown. Would this stop the effectiveness of rogaine? I suppose...
If I’m a NW3, When Will My Advancing to NW6 Be Evident?
If I’m a NW3, When Will My Advancing to NW6 Be Evident?
I’m currently a 3 on the Norwood scale and I see some miniaturization in my crown. Someday I’ll probably reach a 6 on the Norwood scale like my father did, but lets say for some reason I were to progress as far as a 7, when would that miniaturization be present? Would a doctor be able to find it now even though I’m only a 3? I am not...
Can’t I Have Body Hair Transplanted to Scalp If I Don’t Intend My Hair to Be Long?

As i have an extremely large amount of body hair and i guess limited donour hair on my head, is body to head transplant possible? Would it be possible for the transplant to cover the crown as well as the front of the head? What is meant by resting phase...

Hair Loss from SSRIs
Hi, I would like to request clarification on something. I saw a post where you mentioned Sertraline causes hair loss as well as Zoloft. I also saw on some posts where SSRI’s are said to cause hair loss. The questions is how common is this? I have seen different sources use different percentages to represent how rare or often this can occur....
