Kidney Disorder, Propecia and Rogaine?
Hi Doc Can a person with Kidney disorder take Propecia or can he apply Rogaine. Thanks Finasteride (Propecia) is metabolized in the liver so the presence of kidney disease is usually not a problem for taking this medication. For liver disease, finasteride could be a problem and you must check that out with your doctor. In the case of minoxidil, the...
Is it Safe to Assume Taking More Avodart Each Day Will Have Better Results?
Why did testing on Avodart not include 1mg/1.5mg/2mg? I have gathered that the drug is dose dependent so it puzzles me as to why each 0.5 interval has not been explored. My hair loss affects me greatly and I am also a model so it is terrifying me with regards to my job-is it safe to assume that taking 1mg of Avodart per day is better than taking...
Hair Loss from Alcohol Abuse?
I’m 43 years of age. I just quit drinking 6 months ago, my liver was in bad shape to the point my doctor didn’t think I was going to make it. Since then I changed my diet, abstained from using alcohol and anything else that might be hard on my liver. Blood tests that I’ve got recently show my liver to be functioning normal. My health...
Silibinin and Propecia
Is it true that Silibinin inhibits cytochrome P450 enzymes? I take Propecia but also make my own herbal tea from milk thistle seeds and loose horsetail, mainly for the health of my liver and to get some extra silica. If Silibinin does inhibit cytochrome P450 enzymes then is a waste of time taking propecia? Moreover, do you know of any other plants...
Do Younger Patients Retain More Benefits from Propecia Over the Long Term?
I have been taking propecia for a year now, I am currently twenty. Propecia has worked wonders to regrow hair all over my head, including the temples. My question is, and I know results vary, but on average do young patients that use propecia long term continue to retain the majority of their hair over the long term, ten-plus years. I know that at...
I’m a Woman and Was Prescribed 5mg Finasteride Daily
I am a female, aged 68 years. My doctor just put me on finasteride 5mg daily. Is it now safe for women? And is the dosage too high? If I cut the pill into fourths, would that still be too much? I would ask this question and your concerns with your doctor. If you need a second opinion, you need then see another doctor. Please understand this from...
Propecia, Liver Deposits, and the Harshness of Winter
Thank you Dr. Rassman for maintaining a wonderful blog and for being a generally nice guy. My history is a bit checkered: Seven Years ago I was told by Dr. Bernstein (another really nice guy by the way) that based on family history I might have diffuse pattern alopecia although only the vertex was thinning. He put me on Propecia and refused to operate...
I’ve Tried Propecia 3 Different Times and Keep Getting Side Effects
Dear Dr. Rassman, Thank you for this informative website. I visit everyday, and my wife just gave me your book for the holidays. Unfortunately, I am one of the few who have experienced side effects with Propecia. I was orginally on 1mg per day, and then I tried 1mg every other day, and .5 every day. But everytime I had to stop. Luckily, all three...
