Castration and Hair Regrowth
November 30th, 2009 admin
From what I have read, castration stops hair loss however, castration will not regrow hair that has been lost. If this is true, why would Proscar grow any hair? It is my understanding Proscar blocks a percentage of DHT, which leads to the effectiveness of the product. If someone has been castrated there is o% DHT and still no hair regrowth? Also if DHT causes hair loss why is Propecia effective on the vertex of the scalp and not the temples. There is a wide … [ visit site to read more ]

hey doctor, it seems everywhere (mainly hair loss forums) i read it’s saying that propecia is meant to just maintain hair and that any regrowth is an added bonus. But propecia’s website says in their 2 year study that 66% of men had visible regrowth. 2/3 sounds like the majority of people should regrow hair. furthermore the 5 year study...
I am having trouble finding a doctor who will prescribe Proscar to treat my MBP. Every office I call turns me down based on “liability” issues (Including my Primary Care and other Dermatologists). I have been taking Propecia for over a year with great results (without any side effects). Thus, it seems like I would be a good candidate...
As the vertex eats up so many grafts, why do Dr.s try to transplant without the swirl and simply part the hair. The direction of the top could be forward and the lower half downward. I believe many men would give up the swirl for more coverage, is this possible? You are correct. The vertex (crown) ‘eats up’ many grafts. In other words,...
I’m a 24 year old male and have microcytic anemia (most likely) due to iron deficiency. I had been able to halt my MPB hair loss by taking finasteride (1mg) since age 18, however experienced rapid shedding about nine months ago. To stop the hair loss, I added minoxidil 5% to my regimen and started taking ferrous gluconate tablets for my anemia....

Hello Dr. Rassman, I am a 22 year old male, most likely a Norwood Class 2. I have recently begun taking 1.25 mg generic Proscar, which I started about 3 months ago. I have recently noticed there appear to be some new very small, light, and almost invisible hairs growing at the corners of my hair line. When I say these hairs are almost invisible,...
Thank you Dr. Rassman for maintaining a wonderful blog and for being a generally nice guy. My history is a bit checkered: Seven Years ago I was told by Dr. Bernstein (another really nice guy by the way) that based on family history I might have diffuse pattern alopecia although only the vertex was thinning. He put me on Propecia and refused to operate...
Dr. Rassman, Thank you for maintaining this blog, its great to have a free trustworthy resource in a world full of scammers and misinformation. I’m a 24 year old man and have been experiencing loss since age 18. I started on Propecia at 20 and was able to maintain my hair and score some regrowth. Unfortunately I stopped taking the drug for...
Hi, my basic question is about stress and hair loss. I do have alopecia, but when I started rogaine/propecia it was only on my temples. However, for the last two years, I have experience severe psychological stress. I used to have extremely thick hair on the back of my head. However, most of it has fallen out, along with the sides of my head. I read...
Dr. my hair loss started when I was 23. At that point I started researching my options. I’m now 27. My hair loss has progressed at slow pace (thank god). I tried propecia based on my research, a lot of which came from your blog. Right around the 3rd month I really felt like the loss at least stopped where it was at and if I would have kept...
